  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter cold and cubed
  • 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 3/4 cup buttermilk
  • For Garlic Butter Topping:
  • 2 tbsp melted butter
  • 1/4 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tbsp chopped fresh parsley optional

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, garlic powder, and salt.
  3. Cut in butter using a pastry cutter or fork until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Add cheese, then stir in buttermilk until a sticky dough forms.

  6. Bake for 12–14 minutes, until golden brown.
  7. Brush tops with garlic butter mixture while warm.
